O TO BE A CHILD AGAIN
Big soft driven snowflakes come slowly drifting down
Young ones peeking through the shutters in a holiday gown
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
Sleigh bells blissfully ringing moving leisurely in new snow
Children happily seated singing carols joyously as they go
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
Mr. Snow man standing tall looking upward to the sky
Hoping to be the first young one to hear the reindeer cry
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
In the kitchen the smell of goodies blessed by Moms fame
Topped with sugar plum treats all to grandmothers acclaim
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
In the big room the tree glowing to the trimmings and light
As its image is shadowed in the windows bright moonlight
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
Seeing Grandpa hide by the tree holding presents to his ear
Next comes the gentle shaking carefully guessing so sincere
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
Watching Dad stack the wood artistically and stoke the fire
Then hang all those stockings while we would all conspire
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
Young ones snug in bed on the eves prefect clear blue night
Others moving quietly to see if old Santa Clause is in sight
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
That early Christmas morn as gift wrappings become a blur
From Mom and Dad's upstairs bedroom still not even a stir
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
Now comes the traditional festive Dinner much to our delight
Afterwards that needed nap and to all a peaceful good night
T'was An Old Fashion Christmas
How peaceful were those days just to return to yester year
Hearing Mom read the Christmas story much to our cheer
T'was an old fashion Christmas
One day just to gather remembering those happy days
Sitting around our Saviors feet joyfully singing His praise
T'was an old fashion Christmas
Dear Lord, let me be a child again, just for today. Just to turn back the clock to those happy years of yesterday. A time of the simple way of life. A life chunked full of joy and happiness. A time when my young mind would drift off into that happy dream world of make believe.
Most importantly, however, was that "Old Fashion Christmas", when Christmas still held to it's true meaning. (Luke 2:1-20)
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BLESSED NEW YEAR TO ALL
