by Colan L. Hiatt
(Mt. Airy, NC)
A Samaritan woman, at Jacob's well
Was seeking to alleviate her thirst
Pausing from a weary journey
Meeting "this" Jew,- was her first
Filling the waterpot was her concern
But soon that became secondary
The encounter she had that day
In no way, was it ordinary
Culture issues puzzled her
Why should He care about her need
Soon she was awakened to the fact
His mission did, her mind exceed
Although she had a sordid past
We see His grace exemplified
She came to know boundless love
Of this, - she later testified
She left the waterpot then and there
With a great mission to extol
An ambassador she became that day
"Come see this Man, I did behold"
Many came to know the Master
As we read in John, four: thirty nine
Because of the encounter at the well
And a life committed to His design
