The Sin Of Arrogance

Esther 3:5-10

INTRODUCTION: What is arrogance? The definition of arrogant is one, who is full of or characterized by excessive pride or self-esteem, overbearing: haughty. Are we arrogant in our own lives? Are we better than everyone else or do we have a servant mentality? Do we know it all and can do it better than anyone else or do we have room to grow and learn from God and others?

The issue of arrogance is addressed in the Bible through the life of Haman. Even though Haman achieved great power and position in life his arrogance destroyed him. We learn from his life that an uncontrollable desire for power and prestige is self-destructive and that pride, self importance and hatred will be punished. Even though Haman tried to kill all the Jews, God had another plan.

    2. Haman’s revenge caused him to plan Mordicai’s death.
NOTE: Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. Thank you
by: Linda

God is showing me this sin in myself and I am trying to understand its insidiousness in my life, confess and repent of it. It has crept into so many areas. Thank you for this admonition, I really needed to hear it. I found it very helpful and yes, painful also to see how it applies to me. It causes me to love Jesus, my Savior all the more.
