Here's my favorite (John 3:16)
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life". (John 3:16)
There are so many great verses in God's word. So, how can one pick out any particular verse. Yes, each one of us probably can give their favorite, as the one verse that lead to salvation, helped us in time of need, and so on.
For me, it's this one verse. In just twenty five words, it tells us the plan for our world, as well as for us personally. So please let me borrow from another's commentary (Dr. David Jeremiah) as follows:
God- the greatest lover
So Loved- the greatest love
The world- the greatest number
That He gave-the greatest gift
His only begotten Son- the greatest person
That whoever- the greatest opportunity
Believes- the greatest simplicity
In Him- the greatest attraction
Should not perish- the greatest promise
But- the greatest difference
Have- the greatest certainty
Everlasting life- the greatest possession
And to these greatest words of history, God only ask that one respond simply by faith in God's free grace (Ephesians 2:8-9) .
For you see, none of us will ever be good enough, have enough money to pay for, or have enough good family or friends, to help us obtain this free gift of God on our own. That's why it is promised to us freely by God , as our all wise, all knowing Heavenly Father, knows and understands our eternal needs. Why not take God, at His Word, and respond to Him now. It's free you know, just ask for it (John 1:12).
