The Great Deliverance

The Great Deliverance is a textual sermon by Earl White.

Luke 1:74-75

"That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life."

It is a great and cruel fallacy toward God and man to believe that we are saved merely to be satisfied. Such a debased thought is not worthy of the grace of God. The provision that God made for us in Christ is to enable us to live before God, to love our fellow men, and labor for Christ and His cause. This is the great deliverance.

I. WE ARE REMINDED THAT THIS DELIVERANCE IS ALL OF GRACE

We are saved by grace and we live by grace. Many refuse to accept Christ because they say, “I can’t live it and I’m not going to be a hypocrite. The fact is none of us can live it. It takes the grace of God continually forgiving us daily of our short comings as Christians. The only thing about a Christian is that he has a perfect Savior.

And we are accepted in Him. Romans 5:1, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:" When you do wrong, you don’t lose your faith. Your faith is there to bring you back in repentance for forgiveness.

II. WE ARE REMINDED THAT OUR DELIVERANCE IS FROM SIN

Sin is the enemy of the human race. We are born in sin and have inherited the nature of sin. It has captured us in a mighty web and we can’t get free on our own. In giving us His Son he has given us a way to be free from the giant web of sin. Romans 6:18, "Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness." To be free from sin is to be free from its penalty. David said in Romans 4:8, "Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin." We are delivered from sin.

III. WE ARE REMINDED THAT OUR DELIVERENCE IS FROM SELF

Self is our enemy and keeps us in a state from which we cannot get free on our own. I have tried to train my flesh (self) to serve the Lord and I’ve always become a casualty. The flesh is not trainable. Jesus came to deliver us from self. He did it on the cross. Galatians 2:20, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

IV. WE ARE REMINDED THAT WE ARE DELIVERED FROM OUR ENEMY SATAN

The great accuser of the brethren is always ready to bring some railing accusation against the Lord, against His gospel, and against ourselves. We are not ignorant of His devises. We Have been given armor to withstand him in the day of temptation; Ephesians 6:11-13, "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." Truly this is the great deliverance.
