PROLOGUE
I just love to see the Bald Eagle fly. They seem so robustly strong and confident of their mission as they fly through America’s big skies. No wonder America chose this bird as our national symbol.
According to the internet, “Along with an official flower and motto, every state has its own official bird. But flying high above them all is the bald eagle, representing the United States of America. Images of the iconic bird can be found just about everywhere, from coins and paper currency to passports and the president's official seal. But why this bird?
The idea for using the bald eagle to symbolize America was proposed in 1782, when a drawing of the eagle was presented to the newly formed Congress, according to the U.S. National Archives. It was immediately accepted, and soon an olive branch and arrows (representing peace and war, respectively) were included in the eagle's talons.
The bald eagle was officially adopted as the emblem of the United States five years later, in 1787.
The bald eagle was chosen because of its association with authority and statehood in fact, the eagle had been used as a symbol of governmental power since Roman times.”
So, please allow me the honor of prefacing this Scripture-inspired blog by stating I don't usually get involved with politics. I'm not a Democrat, a Republican, nor an Independent.
And I am virtually color blind, as I don't boast of belonging to any imaginary "red state" or "blue state" concept. I have crossed the voting fence many times in voting God's principles.
So, will the eagle fly again? Will it fly over America’s spirituality, her hard-fought freedoms, her world superiority, and her reputation as the land of the free and home of the brave?
Will it continue to fly over and safeguard America’s Constitution, in which combines the best ideas of the past with innovations in what the Federalist called an improved science of politics, federalism, separation of powers, and checks and balances? In doing so, our Founding Fathers created a form of government which had, in the words of James Madison, “no model on the face of the earth." (Taken in part from Larry P. Arnn, President, Hillsdale College.)
Does America now appear to be one grand mess? If the news media outlets are correct in their reporting assessment, both sides of America’s political aisles have seemingly turned against the Scriptures, our freedoms, our leadership, and we the people.
You see I'm just a plain, old, red-blooded American Christian who is in love with God, family and country, in that order. Now, take it from this older than dirt and twice as gritty old southern boy, and grab a glass of cold buttermilk laced with homemade corn bread, sit back in your comfortable old platform rocker, and enjoy this Scripture-orientated blog entitled “The Eagle Has Landed.”
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
We had finished breakfast, my wife and me. I was sitting at the table looking out at the beautiful fall colors as she was cleaning up. The foliage was a sight to behold, reminding me of an old-fashioned picture galaxy. The normal population of little yard creatures seemed to have gone into hibernation.
“How long are you just going to sit there staring out the window?” my wife asked. Before I had a chance to answer it all began to happen. Was it a dream, a vision, or a senior moment of looking back? I really don't know.
First, there was the noise of the rustling leaves, then a being appeared out of nowhere. A huge bald eagle softly landed amongst the leaves. It was not an ordinary bird, but one straight out of a fiction movie.
The bird was all decked out in red, white and blue, holding a big American flag. And before I had a chance to alert my wife, the scenery quickly changed. The big eagle morphed into a full-grown man. And it was not just any man but a battle-scarred soldier, dressed in full battle gear, and holding the American flag.
My wife was bent over the sink and didn't see me mysteriously drawn out into the yard, to stand by the man’s side. He looked puzzled at my bemused expression and began to speak in a very obvious British accent. I remained silent to hear what he had to say,
“I know your history, my good man. You were well decorated in the Big War, and you thought the war was over. Not so, for it has now begun to heat up once more. We must again take up the fight. You see, sir, your Republic of free America has been taken over from within by a faction of individuals loyal to a regressive socialist mindset. “
“America has always been fighting an unseen spiritual war of many battles. Yet now America is being vastly overcome, in this spiritual war. Our enemies are the demonic hosts of Satan, always assembled for mortal combat. (Ephesians 6:12)
I opened my mouth to answer, but not quickly enough. The soldier had morphed back into the big bald eagle and sprang upward on powerful wings. Only this time, instead of carrying the flag, as the big bird moved away through the air, he held a big banner on which I could distinguish a picture of the Bible, with corresponding Scripture passages pertaining to spiritual warfare.
The display brought back a memory of the small group Bible study, we had recently just completed, on Ephesians Chapter Six. I’ll surely be ready now to fight this unseen spiritual war by standing strong (Ephesians 6:10-11), putting on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-17), and with much prayer. (Ephesians 6:18-19)
"Pastor, Pastor, please pick up. You’ve just got to hear this. I’m not sure if it was a dream, a vision, or a look back at your sermon. Nonetheless, please pick up, I’ve got to tell you about this one. You know how I dream, but you just won’t believe this one, or maybe you will."
"Dear, dear, are you still laboring over the sink? You’ve got to hear about this one” I exclaimed.
"Okay, Love," she replied. "I’m coming, I’ll be right there.”
End of story, beginning of service. (Ephesians 6: 23-24)
EPILOGUE
You've probably gathered from my recent blogs that I’m very much concerned with the direction in which our great republic America may be headed. It is surely an uncharted course, to say the least. But we’re not in the belly of the whale just yet. (Jonah 2:1-2)
I’ve always put forth an extra effort to not neglect my spiritual and patriotic duties. In both conversation and in my freelance writings, I trust and pray I have freely made them known.
My problem, as I see it to be, is that a certain faction of our great republic of America probably don’t read such writings, The reason is that they are so dead set on getting their socialist worldview out among the public, they just don’t have the time, nor care to be challenged by such true American writings.
How may we, as a freedom loving public, correct this problem? Firstly, by committing our country, and oh yes, its leaders, to dedicated prayer. And secondly, by giving our all-knowing, all-powerful living Creator the credit He deserves.
“Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down," declares the LORD.” (Obadiah 1:4)
The first three words of our Constitution are “We the people." Yes, that about sums it all up, including this little Scripture-based blog. Amen!
A PARTING PRAYER
“Almighty God, and most merciful Father Who didst command the children of Israel to offer a daily sacrifice to Thee, that thereby they might glorify and praise Thee for Thy protection both night and day, receive, O Lord, my morning sacrifice which I now offer up to Thee; I yield Thee humble and hearty thanks that Thou has preserved me from the danger of the night past, and brought me to the light of the day, and the comforts thereof, a day which is consecrated to Thine own service and for Thine own honor. Let my heart, therefore, Gracious God, be so affected with the glory and majesty of it, that I may not do mine own works, but wait on Thee, and discharge those weighty duties Thou requires of me, and since Thou art a God of pure eyes, and wilt be sanctified in all who draw near unto Thee, Who does not regard the sacrifice of fools, nor hear sinners who tread in Thy courts, pardon, I beseech Thee, my sins, remove them from Thy presence, as far as the east is from the west, and accept of me for the merits of Thy son Jesus Christ, that when I come into Thy temple, and compass Thine altar, my prayers may come before Thee as incense; and as Thou wouldst hear me calling upon Thee in my prayers, so give me grace to hear Thee calling on me in Thy word, that it may be wisdom, righteousness, reconciliation and peace to the saving of the soul in the day of the Lord Jesus. Grant that I may hear it with reverence, receive it with meekness, mingle it with faith, and that it may accomplish in me, Gracious God, the good work for which Thou has sent it. Bless my family, kindred, friends and country, be our God & guide this day and forever for His sake, who lay down in the Grave and arose again for us, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.” (George Washington)
