" And when the day of Pentecost had come, they were together in one place. And suddenly there came from Heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributing themselves and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit was giving them utterance." (Acts 2:1-4)
Send the fire, Thy promise was foretold
Send the fire, Thy comforter to behold
Send the fire, Thy faithful spirit to unfold
Send the fire, Send the fire, Send the fire
Send the fire, Thy cloven tongues we plead
Send the fire, Thy Spirit to meet every need
Send the fire, Thy Holiness to be our creed
Send the fire, Send the fire, Send the fire
Send the fire, In Thy upper room we wait
Send the fire, In Thy accord prayer seals our fate
Send the fire, In Thy Heavens rushing wind elate
Send the fire, Send the fire, Send the fire
Send the fire, For Thy Spirits tongues we seek
Send the fire, For Thy sanctification to speak
Send the fire, For Thy sound to hear unique
Send the fire, Send the fire, Send the fire
Send the fire, From God too long you did stray
Send the fire, From God for sins you must pay
Send the fire, From God Grace will save the day
Send the fire, Send the fire, Send the fire
Growing up in the Salvation Army church, we would have two Sunday services. The morning service was known as the "Holiness" service, and the evening service was called the "Salvation" service. The Salvation service was dedicated to evangelisms, while the morning service was given to Holiness and Sanctification.
This "Holiness" service took on a quiet serene peaceful atmosphere, and the "Salvation" service was more of a "free and easy Old Time Religion" praise service, giving the gospel message of salvation.
We don't see very many Sunday night services any more. And the trend seems to be giving the Holy Spirit a back pew.
The Holy Spirit, the third person of God's Trinity, is very important to our Christian life. He is a real person with real attributes. Space will not allow me to list all of His characteristics. Nonetheless, I suggest that you embark on a study, of the Holy Spirit. It will change your life forever.
From the onset of the early Christian church, the Holy Spirit has given the Apostles and Christians "Holy Boldness", to testify to the saving grace of God (Eph 2:8-9), through His Son Jesus (John 14:6). What about you? Do you have this "Holy Boldness" ? I pray that you do.
However, to be filled by the Spirit , is to be controlled by the Sprit (Eph 5:18). Does the Holy Spirit have full sway in your life? If not, you should petition your Heavenly Father to be filled with the Spirit.
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;"(John 14:16)
Amen !
