"There Is None Like You" is a topical sermon by Mark Hollingsworth.
2 Samuel 7:18-22
2Sa 7:18 Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
2Sa 7:19 And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?
2Sa 7:20 And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant.
2Sa 7:21 For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.
2Sa 7:22 Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
Message: 2Sa 7:22 This is what makes you so great, Master GOD! There is none like you, no God but you, nothing to compare with what we've heard with our own ears.
Introduction:
If we are honest we will admit that there is no one like our heavenly Father. He is an awesome God and he takes care of us. We can seek to find other sources of joy and strength in this world, but we will fail to be fulfilled by those worldly sources. God is our all-sufficient Father and He is all we need. His goal is to get us to where He is all we want!
In what ways is our awesome God more sufficient for our needs than any other worldly source?
Why should our praise to God be, "There Is None Like You"?
I. There is none more True.
Jer. 10:1-10
Jer 10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
Jer 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
Jer 10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
Jer 10:6 Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
Jer 10:7 Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
Jer 10:8 But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
Jer 10:9 Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.
Jer 10:10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
Message: Jer 10:6 All this is nothing compared to you, O GOD. You're wondrously great, famously great.
Look at Jeremiah’s response to God’s truthfulness. He denounces worship of false gods and he exalts the worship and respect for the true and the living God.
Everybody worships something. Everybody picks who their gods will be.
Who or what is your God?
What is your response to God’s truthfulness? It should be, "There Is None Like You!"
II. There is none more Holy.
1 Samuel 2:1-2
1Sa 2:1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
1Sa 2:2 There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
Message: 1Sa 2:2 Nothing and no one is holy like GOD, no rock mountain like our God.
Look at Hannah’s response to God’s holiness. She rejoiced in the Lord, she praised the Lord, she spread the Good News of the Lord and His salvation.
What is your response to God’s holiness? It should be, "There Is None Like You!"
III. There is none Greater.
1 Chron. 16-20
1Ch 17:16 And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
1Ch 17:17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
1Ch 17:18 What can David speak more to thee for the honor of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.
1Ch 17:19 O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.
1Ch 17:20 O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
Message: 1Ch 17:20 There's none like you, GOD, no God but you, nothing to compare with what we've heard with our own ears.
Look at David’s response to God’s greatness. He was humbled, he was thankful, he was worshipful.
What is your response to God’s greatness? It should be, "There Is None Like You!"
IV. There is none more Merciful.
Psalm 86:6-13
Psa 86:6 Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.
Psa 86:7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
Psa 86:8 Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.
Psa 86:9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.
Psa 86:10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.
Psa 86:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
Psa 86:12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name forevermore.
Psa 86:13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.
Message: Psa. 86:8 There's no one quite like you among the gods, O Lord, and nothing to compare with your works.
Look at David’s response to God’s mercy. He was prayerful. He was confident of God’s answer to his prayers. He was submissive to God’s way. He was teachable. He was worshipful and thankful for God’s deliverance from hell.
What is your response to God’s mercy? It should be, "There Is None Like You!"
