May I not boast, except in the cross (Gal 6:14)
Neath the shadow of the cross
His enemies nailed Him there
The saints were all downhearted
All being filled with deep despair.
Neath the shadow of the cross,
Midst the crowd He was alone
Praise God for now and forever
For all our sins He did atone.
Neath the shadow of the cross.
A thief was dying for crimes to pay
The Savior looked towards heaven
Father please forgive him I pray
Neath the shadow of the cross
Stood a Mother watching Him there
Brother John see to thy Mother
Watch over her with your care.
Neath the shadow of the cross
Loved ones followed Him far away
As Jesus bowed thus proclaiming,
It is finished O what a blessed day.
Neath the shadow of the cross
Now by faith you may embrace
Come now asking for forgiveness
By accept His gift of free grace
Neath the shadow of the cross
Come asking in simple prayer
Reach out and touch His love
For you He will always be there
Do you ever feel like boasting or bragging about your Christianity ? I've been there and done that. Once, as a very small "preachers kid", I told my little play mates that I could pray and make it rain. Accepting my friends challenge, I pray like crazy, but nothing happened. I then told my friends that I guessed my faith was weak.
Often times, Satan will use these sins, as well as his other evil devices, (2 Cor 11:3) (Galatians 5:17) (James 1:13-15) (James 4:7) (1John 2:15-17) in an effort to distract us from what got us where we are in Christ, which is God's free gift of grace (Ephesians 2:8-9).
However, the scripture warns against such boasting (1 Samuel 2:3) (John 7:18) (Proverbs 25:14) (Proverbs 8:13) .
If we must boast, we should boast only about our Savior's love ( John 3:16) (1 Cor 1:31) and His finished work on the cross ( Galatians 6:14) to save us from our inherited sin (Genesis 3:1-7 ) ( Romans 5:12).
For centuries, many have tried to do away with the precious cross. And it seems as if this philosophy is getting stronger, as time goes by (2 Tim 3:1-10).
In spite of this evil mind-set, the cross will forever stand the test of time...Perhaps not publicly displayed, but surely displayed in the hearts of all believers. Those who have been washed in the "blood of the lamb", Jesus Christ (Exodus 12:13 ) (Lev 17:11)
(Hebrews 9:22) (Hebrews 13:12) (1 John 1:7) (Revelation 1:5)
