"For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
Does America's apparent false reality, constructed for Americans, parallel the false reality constructed by Big Brother in George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984? Look it up on the Internet and you be the judge.
Then with the plot of this novel in mind, have you picked up a local newspaper lately? Have you tuned into the national news lately? Have you surfed the Internet lately? Have you talked to your neighbor across the backyard fence lately? And sad to say, have you talked across the pew to any fellow church members lately?
Talked about what, you may ask? Simply put, about the truth (John 8:32) as opposed to all the brutish renderings of the newsworthy events being falsely broadcast these days. Who is generating what, I ask? For it seems virtually impossible to distinguish between what is real and what may be fake, and just who these busy infamous personalities are who seemingly appear to be the source of much of America's breaking news.
And the sad result of all this so-called twaddle is that a large portion of the populace seems to be influenced by it all, one way or another. Any after-thought corrections made are hidden away in the usual "too late to matter" column. So, who is the real rascal responsible for it all?
First, a bit of history. It all started in the Garden of Eden, when Satan tempted our first parents, Adam and Eve, to disobey their Creator God's law. (Genesis 3:1-7) Subsequently, all mankind are now born with evil intent. (Romans 3:23) This came shortly after Satan's pride (I Timothy 3:6) had him cast out of God's Heaven. (Isaiah 14:13-14) Now Satan's influence is felt worldwide (Ephesians 6:11-12) although only temporarily. (Genesis 3:15) Satan's influence will continue throughout the last days, as we know them to be. (2 Timothy 3:1-7, 9, 13)
Yes, we see in (1 John 5:19) that the whole world lies in the power of the Satan himself. We have all probably been deceived at one time or another because we are born with a sin nature as a result of the first sin. (Col. 1: 13). Now, this sin nature affects our current world political structure.
And probably unbeknownst to our current socialist politically radicalized news media, our leftist-leaning bureaucrats are simply pawns of Satan's evil schemes, in a last ditch effort to destroy the world system as Satan knows his time of control is drawing to a close in this near end time.
Today's misinformed news may just be repeating what the serpent spoke in the Garden, "Indeed Has God Said?" (Genesis 3:1) You see, Satan's underlying subversive question suggested that God was not good and fair since He restricted the eating of the fruit of one of the trees. So ingeniously does he speak, in order to reproach the divine goodness, and draw man into a disbelief of it. The serpent's lying speech is today's misleading news format. Satan has never ceased lying to Man to further his own ends. The current fake news media is only his latest mouthpiece for his lies.
What then may we do, to combat the wiles of Satan? We must get involved in God's Word. (2 Timothy 3:16) There is only one way to distinguish the lies from the truth, which is to prayerfully know God's Word. We must know what God does, in fact, say to His people. For those of the populace who do not read His Word will always fall for today's deceitful fabrications. Yes, God indeed wants all to talk with Him. (Psalm 27"8)
The old adage "Those who don't stand for something will fall for anything" is certainly true in America today. Yes, God has said it, and it's all written down in His Word. (Psalm 119:11) So, regardless of how bad this old world may get, just remember God is still in control. (Daniel 2:19-23)
Merely hang on to your faith (Hebrews 11:1) for, without it, you can never please God. (Hebrews 11:6) How do we get this faith? By hearing and living by the Word. (Romans 10:17)
I realize not all who hear the true secular news message will necessarily believe it; just as not all who hear the Gospel will be saved. (1 Cor. 1:18) But God's sovereign will is in control. He is actively calling out His people through the hearing of the Gospel. The more we become familiar with His Word, the more apt we are to discredit the false teachings of this current world's social system, and the better citizens we will become. (Psalm 24:5)
So, what will be the outcome of America's current decadent attitude? Is it too late for America to change? I think not. Not as long as we still have breath. Not as long as we have a praying remnant of dedicated Christians still true to His Word. What then, is our game plan? Well, it's found in (2 Chronicles 7:14).
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
Contrary to today's popular belief, it's not up to the government, nor the court systems, nor the politicians, nor the news media, nor the soothsayers, not even up to the mainline religions, unless one can be counted as a dedicated Christian, willing to be responsible for America's change.
You see, it's up to us born again believers in God's eternal principles, His people, if you will, who are willing to humbly seek God's will for America in prayer. Can you be counted on to join this prayer band?
Author's Postscript
From my non-professional layman's point of view, I fear America may just be on the verge of jeopardizing the country's founding freedoms and security. Never before have we had a Congress seemingly so divided within itself.
The conservatives appear to be fighting the moderates. The progressives and the liberals appear to be teaming up against the conservatives and the moderates. And a good number of all the political parties seemingly appear to be rebelliously turning against the nation's newly elected leader. Yes, evil influence appears to abound at all levels of government. God forbid!
So what's the answer? Get involved. Good will overcome evil every time. If you feel you can share the gospel by joining a particular political party, by all means, do so but don't idolize the party. All parties, like religious denominations, have something commendable about them but they are still imperfect groups of humans.
When any particular form of government ceases to do right by compromising the faith, then it is time to stand firm against its agenda, for we have a higher loyalty to God and to His purpose. Our God is a God of order and all authority is an instrument of such order.
As the Apostle Paul points out under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, all public authorities are established by God (Romans 13:1) and instituted by Him (Romans 13:2): all unknown to them they are God's servants (Roman 13:4,6) set in position to bring about His purposes. Therefore we believers are to submit to the authorities (Romans 13:1, 5) and give them the proper respect. (Romans 13:7)
But what about the gist of this blog, that of the ongoing distributing of misinformation? Well, the state has certain obligations and so do we. We live in a democracy whereby we vote for those who will govern us every few years, or so. And apathy and ignorance of the truth often times can be subtle forms of rebellion against God. So, we are to vote intelligently, seek the truth and make assessments based on God's Biblical truths and not be swept along by any false information.
I understand too that in recent years, we have seen an upward trend in cynicism among the voting public. Many no longer think very highly of politics, politicians or governments. And no one seems to care anymore as long as their texting, tweeting, Facebook posts and X-boxes aren't interrupted.
This modern day self-centered mindset must change. We as a people and as a country must stop this selfish "Me, Myself, and I" philosophy. We must return to that "Ole Time Religion" for we are not of this world or its political system. (Please see the results of first Church doctrine given by God's Holy Spirit in (Acts 2:41-47). Amen!
