In Remembrance

by Alex Reece
(Fort Wayne, IN)

Just close your eyes on this Lord’s day,

And think back to His final hour,

The fateful sky’s an ashy grey,

The cross, above all else, does tower.

Imagine standing by that cross,

And looking up into His eyes.

His tears give them a loving gloss,

You know it is for you He dies.

“I’m sorry,” you begin to say,

But before that He speaks to you,

He says, “Do not feel bad today,

For you do not know what you do.”

He looks to you and gives a smile,

That seems to say “It’s all okay,”

And with a heart of self-denial,

The life in Him does fade away.

His humble soul goes to the skies,

And you go down onto one knee,

Recall His words with open eyes,

“This do in remembrance of Me.”
