“Kids can be cruel,” “Boys will be boys,”
We say these things but why?
We make excuses, we know it’s wrong,
But we try to justify.
“It’s just a phase,” “They mean well.”
“The good outweighs the bad.”
The good can fly but it’s anchored down
With the self-excused sin we’ve had.
My least favorite: “Nobody’s perfect.”
God cringes when it’s said.
For there’s One who’s perfect,
He’s the excuse, for us, He joined the dead.
Why do we make excuses? We have only one,
But we will never use it.
It can justify, It suffices just if I
Simply don’t refuse it.
