When you get victory over sin, when your new life is to begin
Don't look back, no never look back.
When the Holy Spirit enters in, when He gives you peace within,
Don't look back, no never look back.
When Satan tries to stop your plan, when he wants you to join his clan,
Don't look back, no never look back.
When you feel discouraged in time, when the mountains are hard to climb,
Don't look back, no never look back.
When your valleys are lonely and dark, when your trail is hard to embark,
Don't look back, no never look back.
When your friends don't see it your way, when they continue to stray,
Don't look back, no never look back.
When the Savior makes plans to return, when to meet Him you do yearn
Don't look back, no never look back.
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.(Isaiah 43:18-19)
Looking back to a life of wrongdoing is a no-no for Christians. Have you ever attempted to mow grass in a straight line, while continually looking back behind you? This will virtually make the grass furrows crooked. You must continue looking straight ahead as you mow. (Luke 10:62).
More than half a century ago, Christian martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) wrote a brilliant but uncomfortable book, The Cost of Discipleship. Boenhoeffer was one of the few German clergymen to stand up against Hitler's godless rise to power -- and he paid for it with his life. But his book title reminds us of the cost of following Jesus closely, and not looking back.
In other words, Christians should never look back to the old life of sin. That's what Satan wants, for you to get a false taste of his pleasures of the sinful life. (Acts 5:3) (Rev. 12:10) (I Thess. 2:18) (I Cor. 7:5) (Eph. 6:12)
Remember, Christ is not asking to follow us, but we are to follow Him through difficulties, hardships, toil, danger or whatever may come our way. If we do this, He will always be there by our side. (Hebrews 13:5) (Matt. 28:10) (Romans 8:31-39)
