Common Sense asked Balaam,
Why“ do you hit me with that stick?"
Balaam answered, “I’m so angry
If I had a sword I’d kill you quick!
When I say get up you lay down
When I say go forward you mess around.”

“Well,” said Common Sense
Continuing his repertoire,
“Maybe there are some things
you can not see anymore."
Think about it, hasn't Common Sense
always made sense before?”

“It’s true’ said Balaam
,“You have taken care of me for years
I've never had to beat you
Or twist and chew your ear.”

"Is it possible,” asked Common Sense,
“We no longer see eye to eye,
You cannot not see the obvious,
If I acquiesce you will die?

"Have you forgotten Common Sense
That I am a prophet of the Lord
And you are a dumb animal
Who cannot speak a word?”

"I can see you are not impressed
with my sudden burst of eloquence
 Anger does not rationalize
Or listen to Common Sense

Surely you could at least admit
You did not take into consideration
You're talking to a donkey
Isn't that an odd situation?

Then Balaam’s eyes were opened
And he saw the angel of the Lord
Ready to loose the fateful lightening
Of his terrible swift sword

As far as I know Common Sense
never spoke again
 If you listen intently
A message God will send

The voice says it is madness
to run greedily to reward
Blinded by things you want,
when you already have the Lord
