Psalms 34:1-22

INTODUCTION: What is a best friend? Well, it is someone who is always there for us, someone who will always listen to us, give us advice or do anything with us. A best friend knows everything about us whether good or bad and still loves and accepts us just the way we are. How many of us have a friend like that?

The Bible shows us in Psalms 34 how God can and wants to be our best friend. Many of us might have thought that this kind of relationship with God wasn’t possible. The Bible shows us it is and that He wants to know us personally and have an intimate relationship with us. We can learn from the Bible how to have a relationship with God like never before.

THEME: HOW DO WE DEVELOP AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?

I. TO DEVELOP AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD WE MUST WORSHIP HIM

  1. We Worship God With Our Praise
    1. Our actions praise God

NOTE: As Christians we need to remember that our actions speak louder than our words

    2. Our words praise God

NOTE: What we talk about reflects what’s important to us

    • Talking to others

    • Praying to God

    • Singing

  2. We Worship God By Seeking Him

    1. We seek God by reading the Bible

NOTE: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Matthew7:7

    2. We seek God by going to church

NOTE: God reveals himself to us through the preaching of His word

    3. We seek God by Praying

NOTE: God loves to hear from us

  3. We Worship God By Calling On Him

    1. We call on God when we need something

NOTE: God shouldn’t be our convenient store, we only go to him when we need something

    2. We call on God to thank Him for what He has done

NOTE: We shouldn’t take anything He does for us for granted

  4. We Worship God By Fearing Him

    1. We fear God by hating evil

NOTE: We can hate sin and still love the people that sin

    2. We fear God by having total trust in Him

NOTE: Total trust is scary at first

NOTE: Gods plans are more important than ours

  3. We Obey God By Searching For Him

    1. Searching for God involves time

NOTE: We need to evaluate our time and properly arrange our priorities

NOTE: We must trust God even when we don’t understand what He is doing

CONCLUSION: Developing an intimate relationship with God. Intimacy with God involves us worshiping Him. Intimacy with God requires obedience from us, and intimacy with God demands communication with Him.

Intimacy involves us worshiping God. Check your own heart today and ask yourself if you came to worship God today or did you just come because it is the right thing to do?

An intimate relationship comes from our obedience. Do you have a problem obeying God or are you totally sold out to Him? Are you holding back or have you given him everything you have?

Intimacy with God comes from communication. How is your relationship with God? Are you just acquaintances or are you best friends?
