“Behold the man!” The words of Pilate rang out over the crowd,
When they gazed upon the Son of God wearing the mocking crown,
“Crucify him, Crucify him!” was the crowd’s condemning shout,
They didn’t know He was the man they couldn’t live without.
Already prophesied, soon to be crucified, He stood before the Jews,
Why do they despise Him? When will they realize Him? For Barabbas is who they would choose.
Nailed to the cross, with more than blood lost, but so much more than that gained,
He could make it end, with Himself to defend, but He strongly chose to refrain.
Behold the Man that saved our souls and gave all through His loss,
Behold the Man that paid it all, choosing to spare no cost.
Behold the Man with the scars in His wrist but still a smile spread wide,
Behold the Man who chose to resist the sins that caused Him to die.
Behold the Man who took out the sins and put blessings in their place,
Behold the Man who always defends and fills our lives with grace.
Behold the Man, with His violent fate, God’s one and only Son,
Behold the Man who will open the gates when our lifelong race is run.
