Text: Matthew 7:15-29
Introduction: I would like to share a few things the Lord has been teaching me about becoming a wise man. First we must understand the Bible is not a religious book. The Bible is a library of 66 books that contains the wisdom of God. When we study and meditate day and night on the wisdom of God; we become wise men and women.
Where there is a solid foundation of God's Wisdom, then there is a solid foundation of God Himself. Jesus teaches us that to begin in the wisdom of God we must have the testimony of Jesus. Jesus being the wisdom of God made flesh John 1:14.
True Christians are those wherein grows the wisdom of God in their hearts. This is called faith in Romans 10:17. More about this a little later.
In verse 24 of our text Jesus said, "Therefore whosoever heareth these saying (Wisdom) of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man." So we can understand the knowledge of this wisdom from God is not to be only a hearer; but also a doer of God's Wisdom.
I. Faith alone will never bring salvation, Romans 10:9
A fool is one that lives their lives without any hope of their circumstance changing for the better. Without the Wisdom of God, a person is living in the darkness of Satan!
When we are doers of God's Wisdom, then like Jesus we become God's Wisdom made flesh. Jesus was the Wisdom of God made flesh John 1:14. In other places in the new covenant Jesus calls it, "being in the Light as He is in the Light."
James 2:14, 26 "What does it profit, my brethren, though a man saith he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without work (actions) is dead also.
Someone has said, "if we do the same thing all the time, and then expect things to change, this is insanity. Acting upon God's Wisdom changes those things that need changing in ones life. Hearing and acting in the Wisdom of God is one step we take from living a storm tossed life into a life of victory in Christ!
II. Storms come our way in life; but our ability depends upon our being doers of God's Wisdom.
If we will notice a storm does alot of damage to houses and businesses; but those established on the foundation of God's Wisdom have little or no damage. When the storms of life comes we must have the solid foundation of God's Wisdom under our lives.
Just going to church on Sunday is not a solid foundation. A solid foundation takes hard work of study, meditation, and prayer. We must put actions to what we believe with all of our heart. To do this we have to believe the Wisdom of God with all of our heart.
James 1:5-8 plainly tells us that if we lack wisdom from God, then we are to ask in faith. Everyone one of us needs wisdom in some area of our lives. James tells us "IF ANY MAN ask, then they will receive God's Wisdom." If you are human God is referring to you! This reveals to us God wants all men to be wisemen! This is not just wisdom for special people, it is for anyone that will ask Him in faith.
III. A double minded person is an unbeliever.
To be double minded is to be living in darkness. How do we recognize a double minded fool? When things don't work out the way they want it to work out for them; then that person is a double minded fool. They will give up and quit because of their fear, doubt, and unbelief. Their double mindedness robs them of the power to take stand.
Don't be a double minded simpleton that does not have God's Wisdom so you can make quality decisions concerning your life. Hebrews 10:39 speaks about not returning unto perdition: but to be of those that believe to the saving of your soul.
According to Webster perdition means damnation, or destruction. Don't allow your life to be destroyed by Satan the destroyer. Don't let the devil destroy your life and family through a lack of wisdom. Our soul consists of our minds, wills, and emotions. If our minds are not prosperous and healthy, then our lives will never prosper or be healthy, III John 2.
Prosperity is not a bunch of money and things. To prosper means you are doing better! If our minds are doing better, and is healthy through Godly Wisdom, then there is hope for us to do better in life!
IV. What faith is to those that live by God's Wisdom.
Hebrews 11:1,6. Faith only comes by our hearing of God's Wisdom Romans 10:17!
1. Faith is now
2. Faith is substance of things hoped for.
This word hope in the Greek means earnest expectation. What are you earnestly expecting God's Wisdom to do for you today? Malachi 3:10,11, you can never expect anything from God if you are robbing from Him. Are you in a financial drought, well be a doer of God's Wisdom and bring all of your tithes into God's Storehouse and get the windows of Heaven opened unto your house.
Give and expect it to be given unto you again, pressed down, shaken together, and running over for men to pour into you by the same measure you give. People say they cannot afford to tithe, and give: when the truth is you cannot afford not to tithe and give. The wisdom of God is you'll only reap a harvest on the seed you plant.
V. To believe and use God's Wisdom is the key that unlocks the door to God's Treasure House.
Living our lives in the Image and Likeness of God Himself was the original plan but lost, Genesis 1:26-28. All of this was restored to man in the new birth. The blessing of the Garden of God is the authority over God's Creation Jesus gave to the Church when He gave us His name, Philippians 2:10,11.
The life of faith is the good life. Anytime the just (those declared righteous by God) live their life by faith in the Wisdom of God, we find the blessing (power to prosper and succeed) upon that persons life. The grace of God flows out of their spirit like the river of life.
Jesus said, "out of your belly shall flow rivers of living waters." This is not just referring to our wisdom bringing life forth; but when others see us they see Jesus, and when they see Jesus in us they see God the Father through our lifestyle, thus, being the light unto the world.
God's Wisdom instructs us as parent and grandparents to train our children and grandchildren in the ways of Godly Wisdom, so they will live life by faith in God's Wisdom. We must never steal from our children and grandchildren God's Wisdom.
A life of God's Wisdom will effect every generation that comes after us. What our children and grandchildren see in our lives, will effect all the decisions they make in their life. The way we must live our life is we must plant seeds of God's Wisdom into the hearts of our future generation!
Conclusion: Deuteronomy 30:19, 20 "I call Heaven and earth to record this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: that thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey His voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto Him; for He is thy life and the length of thy days: (so) that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy father to Abraham, to Isaac, and Jacob, to give them."
Galatians 3:29 "And if ye be Christ's, then are you Abraham's seed, and heir according to the promise." We receive our inheritance living by faith in the wisdom of God, and not by our five physical senses.
Romans 12:1-3 teaches us that through the renewing our minds by God's Wisdom we can grow from God's good will, into His acceptable will, and finally into His Perfect will for our lives. The key is to think soberly according to the measure of faith God's Wisdom has given to each one of us.
Never try to live someone elses faith; their faith is God's will for their life, not yours. Trying to live by someones elses faith is to miss God's will for your life a million miles.
When we live out the Wisdom of God for our life; then we are living in the image and likeness of God for the world to see. When they see God's image and likeness in us, they will then believe for themselves. It is the goodness of God that brings men unto repentance, Romans 2:4.
